FORMULA 1: HAMILTON RETIRE IF MERCEDES DOESN’T MAKE THE W13 WINNING CAR IN THE 2022 SEASON?

Lewis Hamilton has achieved everything a driver could dream of. Tied in titles with Michael Schumacher and owner of the records for the most victories and pole-positions – among others -, the seven-time champion has always stood out in Formula 1. But nothing he managed to achieve came easily. In a post shared on social media, Hamilton opened up about emotional and mental health difficulties.

“It’s been a very difficult year with everything that’s been happening around us. Some days it’s hard to stay positive. I’ve struggled for a long time with mental and emotional health issues, and moving forward requires constant effort, but we have to keep fighting. . We have a lot to do and conquer”, said the Briton.

At the end of 2021, Hamilton lost what would be the eighth championship to Max Verstappen in the last corner of the last race, the Abu Dhabi GP. The overtaking only happened due to a controversial decision by the race direction, which allowed the Dutchman to approach Lewis. The Mercedes driver preferred to take a break from social media after all that had happened, and take advantage of the family vacation to come back energized in 2022.

In February, the seven-time champion reappeared to eliminate any suspicion that he could retire and would not race this year. Still in the text published on his Instagram, Hamilton recalled the importance of dealing with his feelings, and sent a message of welcome and positivity to his fans.

“I’m writing to say it’s ok to feel the way you do, just know that you are not alone and that you will get through it. A friend of mine reminded me today, we are so powerful and we can do anything when we try hard. . Let’s remember to live grateful for one more day. Sending love and light to you all,” Lewis wrote.

The seven-time champion has not had an easy start to the season. Mercedes has yet to find the car’s spot, and Hamilton has had its worst start since 2009, with a third-place finish in Bahrain after Red Bull crashes and just a tenth-place finish at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Lewis returns to the track this Sunday (10), for the Australian GP.
