Porto Municipal Gallery promotes meetings on art, science and music

ANDIn a statement, Galeria Municipal do Porto reveals today that Galeria Energia will be the “new program of public meetings” and will bring together artists, scientists, writers, musicians and poets.

Galeria Energia, the first project of the new artistic direction assumed by Filipa Ramos, will take place in different spaces of the city, such as libraries, markets and cinemas, since the Municipal Gallery of Porto is undergoing works of “improvement and revitalization ” since February and should remain closed until the end of the year.

The first session of the project will be on Friday, April 8th, with neuroscientist Marta Moita who, at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, at 7:00 pm, will address and talk about her research on fear.

The project will have a bi-monthly frequency and will take different formats, such as concerts, conferences, tours and ‘workshops’, in which the approaches reflect “the cultural production of the present”.

Cultural memory, racial and gender identity are some of the themes that Galeria Energia will address in order to stimulate “transdisciplinary dialogues” and make known “artistic research rooted in the medicinal and culinary traditions of the North” of the country.

Articulating in four “lines of action” — Commented Concerts, Science is Art, Imaginaries and Pastures and Pastures — the Energy Gallery will have an initial cycle of one year.

In Commented Concerts, artists like João Pais Filipe, Wintermuto or Nkisi will share their influences and musical references, while in Ciência é Arte, scientists like Marta Moita or Patricia Saragueta will leave the laboratory and dialogue with the field of cultural production.

The importance of imaginaries to desire change and invent the future of society will be addressed through specialists of contemporary thought such as Teresa Castro and Saidiya Hartman, in Imaginaries, and the discovery of paths between nature and the city will be guided by artists and botanists such as this is the case of the A Recoledora project.

Participation in the meetings is free, requiring only the collection of the ticket up to 15 minutes before the start at the counter of the Galeria Municipal do Porto.

Each person can request a maximum of two tickets, it is recommended to make an advance reservation via the gallery’s email.
